The Association of Municipal Administrators, NS is a professional, non-partisan association dedicated to excellence in municipal administration. The AMANS is mandated to continue to improve the professionalism of people working in municipal governments. Its membership of over 165 is drawn from municipal units, the Department of Municipal Affairs, and other professionals in the field. Membership is open to professionals involved in the administration of municipal government in Nova Scotia and includes CAOs/Clerks and Deputies, Financial Staff, Administrative Assistants and other positions.
AMA plays an important role in the professional development of municipal staff and therefore, provides value to municipalities and NSFM. The Association is involved in training opportunities for members, provides forums for exchanging ideas and serves as a valuable resource to municipal elected officials. The AMA is often called upon to assist with NSFM and DMA projects. The AMANS is incorporated under the Societies Act and is governed through by-laws approved by its membership. The Association has an elected President, Vice-President, Past President and an Executive Committee representing ten regions around the province. Past President of NFSM serves as an AMA Executive Committee and vice versa.
AMANS is staffed by an Executive Director, Finance Officer / Event Coordinator, Municipal Website Coordinator, Municipal Wellness Coordinator and a Policy Analyst / Project Coordinator. Key Stakeholders include the Nova Scotia Federation of Municipalities, the Department of Municipal Affairs, Dalhousie University College of Continuing Education and all municipalities in Nova Scotia.
